Once the Toyota Supra split off to become a bigger, faster, and more expensive rear-wheel-drive sports car than its erstwhile Celica sibling, the Celica switched to the front- or all-wheel-drive Carina platform and took over the job of snazzy commuter coupe starting in 1986 in North America. For the 1990 model year, the Celica got a more rounded look and some technological upgrades. Here’s a magazine advertisement for the notchback version of that car.
