It is Father's Day next weekend, don't forget…

Obviously, all Ferraris are special, but there really is nothing quite like Maranello’s ‘Icona’ range of supercars, the V12-powered masterpieces reserved for the most cherished customers. So far (there’ll surely be more to come), there have been the SP1 and SP2 Monzas, then the SP3 Daytona that was shown to the world last year. Naturally, they’re all sold out, but Lego knows a good thing, and has launched a new Technic kit based on the Daytona.
Now, as a Lego Technic model, this Ferrari isn’t one to let the kids muck about with too much. It’s intended for those 18 and above and comes with 3778 pieces, so won’t be the work of one rainy afternoon. But there are some seriously cool bits to it: a successfully assembled Technic SP3 will have moving pistons in its V12, a functioning seven-speed gearbox, butterfly doors and the removable roof. Furthermore, while Lego will always create a more etch-a-sketch look than the real thing, the Ferrari logos and faithfully recreated wheels will mean there’s no mistaking this Daytona for anything else.
When complete, the Ferrari will be 59cm long, 25cm wide and 14cm high, making it one of the largest Technic models yet, and just the thing to show off on the mantelpiece when friends come over. Lego reckons it’s the ‘ultimate sensory experience’, after all, so it’d be rude not to share it. The Technic Daytona SP3 is available now from Lego or all good toy shops, priced from £349.99. And you don’t even have to be one of Lego’s best customers to get one.
