New Egypt, NJ (July 27) — The term “driver” will take on a whole other meaning at New Egypt Speedway on Saturday, August 5, as the Cream Ridge Golf Club tees off the track’s annual Banner Night with a golf-themed racing program filled with fun and prizes.
The response to last year’s Banner Night was overwhelming, with more than 30 artistic entries ranging from crayon drawings to embroidered flags. As in last year’s competition, driver banners created by fans will be displayed during intermission and judged in two age groups — adults and 12 and under. Grand prize for the best banner in the adult category is a 19-inch color TV, courtesy of Cream Ridge Golf Club, a picturesque public course featuring the Greens Cafe restaurant and banquet facility on Route 539 in Cream Ridge, NJ.
And the big prizes don’t end there. Two lucky fans will win greens fees and carts for a foursome at the Cream Ridge Golf Club, valued at $220 each. Other giveaways include gift certificates for the famous Thursday night family buffet at the golf club’s Greens Cafe; kids have a shot at a pair of bicycles. And there’ll be Cream Ridge Golf Club caps for golf trivia winners.
The drivers (race car drivers, that is!) will have a chance to hit the links following the preliminary events, when Cream Ridge owner Bill Miscoski presents the New Egypt Open — a hole-in-one putting contest where heat race winners from all three divisions will try to make like Tiger Woods. Every racer who sinks a putt in a single stroke will receive $50 from Cream Ridge Golf Club, and all participants will receive a golf club cap. Are the drivers ready to get down and “bogey”? Come out and see.
Gates open at 4 pm on August 5, and action swings underway at 6:30 pm, with big-block Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks on the card. Adult admission is $12, children ages 7-12 are $4, and kids 6 and under are free. The speedway is located on Route 539, minutes from Six Flags Great Adventure and the NJ Turnpike. For more information, call the track office at (609) 758-1900.
