The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has apologised to motorists over the delays following industrial action. It is also still dealing with social distancing rules at the headquarters in Swansea.

Like most other businesses, the DVLA was overwhelmed with thousands of applications of both paper and online driving licence enquiries.

It has confirmed that there is no delay to online applications.

DVLA sites in Swansea have recorded hundreds of Covid cases among its 6,000-strong workforce.

The agency is currently processing licence renewal applications submitted on June 9.

This includes applications to change a name or address.

The industrial dispute has seen targeted strike action since April over Covid-safety measures.

DVLA workers have been asked if they support further industrial action, with a union ballot set to close on September 3.

The DVLA issue around 12 million driving licences and 18 million vehicle log books annually and usually answer around one million phone calls each month.
