Sentry SL is a Gloucester based start-up which manufactures anti-theft technology in hopes to cut down the amount of caravan thefts. The company has spent four years developing our Smart-Lead product for professional installation into models manufactured before GPS tracking came as standard.

According to its website, more than 4,000 caravans are stolen each year in the UK.

Only eight percent of these caravans are recovered.

Crime prevention figures show that caravans fitted with additional security devices are less likely to be stolen.

Sentry SL’s Smart-Lead will also provide a set of window stickers to show there is an integral GPS tracking system on board.

If the caravan does get stolen, the chances of retrieving it quickly are greatly increased.

Steve Roberts, a businessman and former construction project manager, has also developed the Smart-Lead to be used for trade professionals.

It can be retrofitted into tools such as drills so that if stolen or mislaid the location can then be traced via GPS tracking on a mobile phone app.

Additional versions are under development for a wide range of applications including agricultural equipment, jet-skis and electric bikes.

After 40 years in the construction trade Mr Roberts was inspired to create and design the technology from his experiences of seeing “devastated” colleagues having their equipment stolen and being unable to recover it.

Speaking with Business Live, Mr Roberts spoke of his plans with the company.

He said: “We want to make it simple for people to protect the things that matter to them, whether it’s the family campervan or the tools needed to earn a living.

“These items are easy to steal, but difficult to recover and the impact of their loss can be really damaging, emotionally and financially.
