When you think of car auctions these days, you likely picture flashy exotics and one-owner classics rolling across a fantastically ornate stage under the bright lights with thousands of people enthusiastically calling out bids. Honestly, you wouldn’t be wrong. In the past decade, auto auctions have become somewhat of a spectacle. We’d be remiss if we didn’t say that we’ve always kind of joked about how awesome it would be to send a factory stock pickup across the block just to see what it would do. Well, it would seem that we’ve been beaten to the punch by this amazing 2004 Toyota Tacoma that’s set to be auctioned off at the Mecum Auctions event in Indianapolis on Friday, May 13.
Low Miles, Few Options, All Awesome
The truck in question is a pristine base-model, single-cab, long-bed, two-wheel-drive Tacoma. This particular truck is special, as the 2004 model year was the final one before the compact Tacoma underwent a full refresh and became the larger midsize pickup we know today. The auction ad lists the truck as being equipped with a four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission.
If correct, that would mean under the hood lives a 2.7L I-4 that produces 150 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, and is backed by a four-speed automatic transmission. We can presume by the low 35,974 miles on the odometer that this is a one-owner truck as well. From the pictures we can also see that the truck’s body is straight and that the interior is incredibly clean. It’s almost as if this truck lived in a bubble most of its life.
Bring on the Base-Model Love
We are suckers for base-model trucks, and this one is no exception. From its steel wheels to its cassette deck, this truck oozes nostalgia. We can easily picture ourselves using a truck just like this one as a daily driver for decades to come. Interestingly, this 2004 Toyota Tacoma likely carried an original MSRP of about $13,000. Today, in this condition, Kelly Blue Book pins the truck’s private party value at between $10,000 and $12,000, which is incredible. What will it bring at auction? We’re about to find out!
