The complaint came after Mike and mechanic Marc Priseltely stuck an orange lightning bolt decal on the side of a classic Mitsubishi Evo 7. Mike found the blue Mitsubishi online and paid £6,750 for the vehicle.

On their initial checks, Marc found parts of the engine and pistons were missing and the car needed a lot of work.

During the restoration, Mr Brewer came up with the idea of a decal as he warned the car was a bit of a “plain Jane”.

He said: “I think we’re going to attack a specific part of the market, the people who want that sort of all-out, drift car look.”

However, one Twitter user took to social media to complain about the design.

One social media user said the “graphic was horrendous” and helped to “ruin” the car.

They said: “Did well to ruin a future classic.

“Big fan of Wheeler dealers but that graphic was horrendous.”

However, Mike defended his design on Twitter, saying the new decal “helped sell the car”.

He added the owner was “delighted” with the model and suggested the decal could be “peeled off” in the future.

He said: “It may not be to everyone’s taste but it proved the point because it helped sell the car and that’s all that matters the new owner is delighted with it.

“Also remember it’s just a sticker and can be peeled off so I don’t know how it ruined a future classic?”

In the clip, Marc Priestley said wrapping the car was a “risk” as it “won’t be to everyone’s taste” but there was “no turning back” once it was applied.
