2021 Genesis G90 flagship sedan gets more kit, and 50-unit limited edition Stardust edition for Korea – paultan.org

The Genesis G90, which surfaced as an unrecognisable facelift in November 2018, goes into the 2021 model year with new equipment and a limited edition Stardust edition.

The G90 is the flagship model of Hyundai’s premium brand, and the 2021 car receives the latest kit and tech from the group. The “entry level” variant will now have Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension and Intelligent Front-Lighting System as standard. The latter is like auto high beam that detects oncoming cars and blocks them from glare.

The 2021 G90 is also now available with the optional Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, which warns a driver pulling out of a parking spot when it detects an object or pedestrian behind the vehicle. It can apply emergency braking to avoid a collision. New 19-inch wheels are another option for the latest MY.

The special edition Stardust edition will be limited to 50 units for the Korean market. Taking inspiration from a star-filled sky above a red carpet event full of flashing camera lights, the Stardust sports a special carbon metal paint with a sparkling pearl effect. The lower half of the limo’s body is in black for a two-tone look.

Inside, the Stardust gets bespoke seats with two-tone leather and metallic pore Ash wood. “The G90 Stardust represents the ultimate form of elegance. In that moment when you arrive at a red carpet event, nothing less is expected,” said Genesis design chief SangYup Lee.

The G90 is powered by a 3.3 litre twin-turbo V6 (365 hp/510 Nm) or a 5.0 litre naturally aspirated V8 (420 hp/520 Nm). Both are paired to an eight-speed automatic an H-TRAC all-wheel drive is optional.

Lockdown traffic chaos warning: 10 million cars set to hit the roads

One in three drivers is expected to take to the roads this weekend, as English lockdown restrictions ease on 4 July


Traffic experts are warning England’s roads could be choked with over 10 million cars next weekend, as significant easing of lockdown rules will permit people to travel to stay in the houses of friends and families for the first time in three-and-a-half months.

The prediction follows a survey commissioned by the RAC, which found 31 per cent of motorists are planning to travel and stay overnight in England on the weekend of 4 July. With 34 million driving licences held in England, that extrapolates to 10.54 million people planning journeys. The figures don’t take into account all the journeys that will be made by people who don’t plan to stay overnight, so if the RAC data is to be believed, we could have an extremely busy weekend in store. 

  • Six-month MoT extension ends on 1 August

The weekend of 4 July marks the first time (save for exceptional circumstances) since lockdown was introduced on 23 March that English people have been allowed to spend the night in other people’s houses – although restrictions remain in place, and only two households can gather under one roof. 

Some 11 per cent of the 1,400 drivers surveyed by the RAC said they would be heading for overnight stays with family members, while a further eight per cent said they would be sleeping over at friends’ houses. Assuming those trends extrapolate to the wider motoring public, that equates to 6.46 million journeys. 

Campsites, hotels and bed and breakfasts in England are also allowed to reopen on 4 July after being closed for 15 weeks; nine per cent of those polled said they would be staying at one of these destinations, equivalent to a further three million car journeys.

Previous research by the RAC and Inrix estimates busy bank holiday weekends see around 12 million cars take to the road over three days, meaning 4 July could prove a record day for traffic levels. Rod Dennis, breakdown spokesperson for the RAC, said his firm’s survey indicated “a large proportion of drivers in England are desperate to reconnect with friends, family and indeed nature by staying overnight”, and that the volumes of traffic this looks set to entail will mean “some busy conditions on the roads”.

Dennis added that while the location for traffic hotspots will depend on how far people travel, “motorways and major A-roads could end up taking the brunt of the traffic if people have longer distances to drive to see family and friends or to take a weekend break.” Dennis also advised drivers to make careful checks on their cars before setting off, while campers should ensure their breakdown contract covers them for their caravans, motorhomes or trailers.

GALLERY: 2020 Subaru Forester GT Edition in Malaysia – 156 PS/196 Nm, EyeSight, RM177,788 – paultan.org

Following the Malaysian debut of the Subaru Forester GT Edition at the beginning of this month, we have since managed to photograph a full gallery of the 2.0 litre, naturally aspirated all-wheel drive SUV. The GT Edition is based on the top 2.0i-S EyeSight variant, which as the name suggests, comes with the EyeSight suite of driver assistance systems.

This includes Pre-Collision Braking and Throttle Management, Lane Sway and Departure Warning, as well as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. Also part of the package are Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, a Side View Monitor and a Blind-Spot Detection system.

The Forester GT Edition is powered by the Japanese automaker’s FB20 naturally aspirated, direct-injection horizontally-opposed four-cylinder petrol engine, here producing 156 PS at 6,000 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, which is sent to all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission. Driveline management is handled by the Special X-Mode selector, featuring Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes.

Rolling stock is a set of 18-inch alloy wheels unique to the GT Edition with ‘GT’ centre caps, shod in 225/55 tyres. Exterior kit that distinguishes the GT Edition from other Forester stablemates include a front bumper lip extension, side skirts, roof spoiler and rear bumper lip extension, while the interior receives GT Edition-specific leather upholstery.

Infotainment kit is comprised of an eight-inch Display Audio setup with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the included Superview Around Recognition 360 offers a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings for moving about in close quarters.

The example photographed here wears the Crystal White Pearl paint finish, and this joins a palette of six other colours comprising Ice Silver Metallic, Jasper Green Metallic, Horizon Blue Pearl, Sepia Bronze Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic and Crystal Black Silica. Forza Horizon 4 Series 24 Preview: Photo Challenges, Classic Rally & A Danish Beast

Playground Games has given us a preview of the next update for Forza Horizon 4. After unforeseen circumstances and a technical hiccup disturbed the release of Series 23, the livestream for Series 24 marks a return to regular service. The latest update is due to drop later this week.

Let’s dive in to see what Series 24 will be offering.

New Reward Cars

The latest quartet of cars coming to Series 24 come from all ends of the spectrum, with machines to suit every taste. Summer will see the introduction of the new Zenvo TSR-S.

Coming from Denmark, Zenvo is relatively unknown in the hypercar world, but the TSR-S looks to make a dramatic statement. Powered by a twin-supercharged 5.8-liter V8, the TSR-S makes almost 1,200hp.

The Zenvo’s party piece comes from its centripetal rear wing. Unlike most active aerodynamics, the Zenvo’s wing will tilt to provide downforce to whichever side of the car needs the most grip.

Autumn will bring a rather unexpected car from Ford’s library, the Ford GT70. Unlike the Le Mans-winning GT40, the GT70 was designed with rallying in mind. The competition cars were powered by a 200hp 1.6-liter engine.

The GT70 was originally meant to have a production run of 500 units, but only six were ever built. Three out of those six were able to see any kind of competitive action. Problems plagued all three cars, leaving Ford to ultimately scrap the GT70 project.

Winter rally fans will get the chance to drive one of the most successful rally cars of all time: the Ford Escort Mk 2. Swedish driver Bjorn Waldegard piloted this particular Escort to win the 1977 Lombard RAC Rally.

With a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine singing under the hood, the 250hp Escort will be keen to dance through the trails around the Horizon Festival.

Finally, Spring will see the 1985 Mazda RX-7 join the festival ranks. The first generation of Mazda’s iconic sports car often gets left behind in comparison to its successors.

The 1.2-liter (sort of) rotary unit produces just over 130hp, but the RX-7’s keen chassis would help set a template that would go on to become a JDM darling.

Series 24 will introduce new Photo Challenges to the Festival Playlist for those looking to flex their photography muscles. Every week will see a new objective where you have to take a picture of a certain car at a specific location. The Summer Photo Challenge will have the Zenvo TSR-S as the prize.

This Video Says Tesla Cars Are Great Even If The Company Isn't

Did Andy Rogerson, from EVM, hit the nail on the head? Or is he wrong?

It’s been a while since we last published a video from the EVM channel. Andy Rogerson had just bought a Tesla Model 3, and we wrote about it on March 16. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic was starting to hit hard, and he did not make a review of his car then. That only happened recently, and the youtuber states it seems like a long-lasting marriage. He also says that the vehicle is excellent even if many cannot say the same about Tesla.

His comparison to marriage comes from those moments in which he looks at the car and says, “this is why I chose you,” along with those he wants to split ways with the machine. Considering what he says about Tesla, his metaphor would be perfect if he compared the company to a bad mother-in-law.

Rogerson says the car is great and that there is a reason for all these automotive channels on YouTube to seem to be made by apologists. According to him, anyone that gets to drive a Model 3 would fall in love with it for the product it is. Chris Harris already said that he loved the EV, but did not buy out of fear of having to be part of “the club.”

The bad points of his experience with the car come from the finishing and quality issues, such as the way the rear bumper does not integrate well with the body. What bothers Rogerson is that it is something so evident in his Model 3, like the aspects of your wife’s – or husband’s – personality that you are sure that are due to the way she/he was raised. In Tesla’s defense, the company promised to fix that.

He is also annoyed by the “non-premium” aspects of his car, such as the lack of knobs, the way the frunk lid closes, and the “fake leather” – as Rogerson names the synthetic leather Tesla calls vegan. Imagine a spouse that lacks more sophisticated manners in a situation that requires that.

Apart from the cost-cutting elements of his Model 3, he is positively impressed with his car’s performance and its running costs. The latter is the reason why he never bought a BMW 3 Series, the car he always wanted to have.

Finally, Rogerson mentions some people had bad experiences with Tesla but that they were not due to the car, but instead to Tesla. We get that many times whenever someone reports an issue, such as the paint problems the Model 3 has. All owners so far said they loved their EVs: what they can’t stand is their “mother.”

Christoph Gümbel, who was head of Virtual Vehicle for Porsche for over 25 years, shared:

“While the vehicle was invented more than 130 years ago, virtual development took first tentative steps in the early 80s. Testing and experiments have been leading the development process. More than 20 years later, digital images of the vehicle were called “Digital Prototypes” and a process was established with the primary objective to reduce hardware. Physical and digital prototypes were now treated equally.

Future products have to be smart and sustainable. For the automotive industry this can be translated into e- mobility, connectivity, autonomous driving and shared mobility.

Cost reduction combined with increasing speed of innovations and complexity are forcing the automotive industry to extend the use of virtual development tools by positioning simulation in a leading role during the concept phase of product development.

The disruptive transition from ICE to EV, from driver to passenger, from owner to user leads to an enormous challenge. Functions, like autonomous driving can only be developed with the help of numerical simulation. Speed matters to comply with future legislation standards and to counteract the growing competition.”

It was during our visit with Ford that we learned its strategy when it comes to developing the Mustang Mach-E. We also learned how the Mustang crossover will be loaded with advanced technology such as hands-free driving, OTA updates, and much more.

Alex Zanardi undergoes second neurological operation

Alex Zanardi has undergone a second round of neurological surgery 10 days after being admitted to hospital with severe head injuries sustained in a handbike road accident.

Ex-Formula 1 and CART driver Zanardi struck a vehicle while taking part in a handbike event in Siena on 19 June, leaving him with head and facial injuries. Zanardi underwent surgery upon admission and has remained in a medically-induced coma since, with the most recent update being issued last Wednesday confirming his condition remained serious.

In a new bulletin issued on Monday by Siena University Hospital, it was confirmed that Zanardi had undergone a second surgery after a CT scan presented “an evolution in the patient’s state which made is necessary to have a second neurosurgical intervention”. 

The surgery lasted two-and-a-half hours, after which Zanardi returned to the hospital’s intensive care unit where he remains in a coma.

The hospital reported that Zanardi’s condition “remained stable from the cardio-respiratory and metabolic point of view, serious from the neurological point of view” 

“The intervention carried out represents a step that had been anticipated by the team,” according to the university’s health director, Roberto Gusinu. “Our professionals will evaluate day by day the evolution of the situation. 

“In agreement with the family, the next bulletin will be issued in about 24 hours.”

Zanardi has enjoyed a prolific career in handbike racing, winning four gold medals at the Paralympic Games in 2012 and 2016.

The 53-year-old former F1 driver also won the CART championship twice, prior to an accident at the Lausitzring in 2001 that resulted in both his legs being amputated.

      The Fiat 500X is one of the more style-focused offerings in the small SUV/crossover class. It does a good job of extending the iconic design cues of the 500 city car into this segment. Not everyone will fall for the cutesy looks, but those who do will find it a practical lifestyle accessory – even if Fiat no longer offers the more rugged 4×4 version.

      With a chassis shared with the Jeep Renegade, the 500X’s dynamics and handling on the road are surprisingly sharp, while the latest petrol engines boost efficiency and performance. We’d go so far as to say the high-speed refinement is exemplary for a car in this class, making it a perfect small family car for the fashion-conscious buyer. 

      With so many crossovers for sale in the UK, the Fiat 500X needs something special to help it stand out. And as its name suggests, that something is a retro look inspired by the evergreen Fiat 500 city car. But while the looks are similar, the 500X is a lot bigger, and it would suit somebody who likes the look of the 500, but needs a bit of added practicality.

      Under the skin, the Fiat 500X shares running gear with the Jeep Renegade, while other rivals that offer similar space and upmarket appeal include the Mazda CX-3, MINI Countryman and Audi Q2. These cars are slightly larger than other rivals, such as the Peugeot 2008 and SEAT Arona.

      A comprehensive range update in 2018 saw Fiat drop the 500X diesels completely. There's no 4×4 version any more due to low sales, either, so all cars are front-wheel drive. The trim line-up now consists of Urban, Lounge, City Cross, Cross Plus and Sport.

      As you might expect, there are subtle differences in the way Urban and Cross models look, with the latter getting chunkier bumpers, roof rails and extra body cladding to emphasise its faux-off-road appeal. The Urban models start at around £19,000, with the Lounge an extra £1,200. The flagship Sport model tops out at just over £25,000.

      Petrol engines are fitted across the board, and the line-up features Fiat's new FireFly powerplants. In 2019, Fiat dropped the old 1.6 eTorq motor, and while that's no hardship in itself, it does mean the 500X's basic list price has risen by around £1,000.

      Anyway, we'd always recommended skipping that most basic version, as the newer 1.0 and 1.3 turbocharged FireFly engines are more powerful yet also more efficient. The 1.0 is a three-cylinder turbo with 118bhp and a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.3 is a 148bhp four-cylinder with a six-speed DCT auto.

      All trim levels can be specified with either engine, with the exception of the entry-level Urban, which is only available with the 1.0-litre unit. The 1.3 represents a price premium of around £2,500 over the 1.0-litre.

    MOT tests to resume for some road cars in just weeks – check which vehicles are due a test

    MOT tests will return on a mandatory basis in just over four weeks although many models will still be exempt for several months as garages deal with backlogs. The changes mean vehicles which are now due a test from 1 August will be required to get a test certificate to continue using their vehicles legally.

    Roads Minister, Baroness Vere said: “As people return to our roads, it is vital that motorists are able to keep their vehicles safe. 

    “That’s why as restrictions are eased, from 1 August MOT testing will again become mandatory.

    “Garages across the country are open and I urge drivers who are due for their MOT to book a test as soon they can.” 

    The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed drivers who are due their MOT tests before 1 August will still receive a six month exemption.

    Continuing the extension will ensure garages are not overburdened with a surge in demand while ensuring cars can begin to be tested for dangerous faults. 

    The DfT says motorists can voluntarily get their MOT sooner if they wish even if they have been issued an exemption notice. 

    Over 90 percent of garages are now open across the country as testing capacity rises to 70 percent of normal levels. 

    A special policy has been introduced for any drivers who are considered vulnerable or self-isolating from the virus.

    Affected motorists should contact their local garage as many are offering pick-up and drop-off services to customers. 

    This new system ensures motorists are able to get their car checked for safety issues without needing to visit a garage. 

    Responding to the news, AA President Edmund King says resuming tests would “help drivers” and make “roads safer”. 

    “It makes sense to reintroduce MOT testing from 1 August 2020 now that COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted and all garages and dealerships are open.

    “The extension was a pragmatic move to help drivers in self isolation but as services resume we agree that reintroducing the MOT with good advance notice will help drivers and make our roads safer.”

    Over the weekend, Mr King told The Telegraph he wanted the scheme to end within two months. 

    The AA President warned an exemption “could lead to many more unsafe cars on the road” as vehicles were not being checked for failures.

    The DfT warns cars which have been offered an extension must be kept in a road legal condition at all times or owners risk being fined. 

    They have warned motorists should still take their vehicle to be checked if they notice something is wrong even if their car is exempt from formal testing. 

    The Independent Garage Association has previously claimed that over 1.5million unroadworthy cars were in use across the UK due to testing extensions. 

    The DVSA has already confirmed MOT testing will resume for heavy vehicles from 4 July as business fleets return to the road.

    A similar system has been put into place which will see tests staggered to help “manage demand”.  

    A three month exemption has been granted for HGVs due to be tested in June with further exemptions set to be announced for those due a test in July.
